A winter storm has swirled up the east coast of the US, disrupting government work in Washington and leaving behind bitter cold that sapped fuel supplies.
The storm stretched from Kentucky to New England. The heaviest snowfall was recorded in the Boston suburb of Norwell, in Massachusetts, with more than 46 centimetre.
At least two deaths were blamed on the weather. Schools were closed on Wednesday in areas including Boston and Philadelphia.
Federal workers in Washington were delayed by about two hours getting to work, and airports reported almost 3,500 flight delays or cancellations.
