China has said that its Air Force will continue routine patrols over its Air Defense Identification Zone over the East China Sea. China announced the new ADIZ over two months ago, and has maintained routine patrols since.
An Air Force spokesperson reiterated China’s justification for the air zone, saying it is designed to provide air defense warnings, and that it does not target any country. The spokesperson also clarified that regular international airlines have not been affected by the air zone.
Meanwhile, a newly built ship has been commissioned for the Chinese coast guard operating in the East China Sea. The country’s State Oceanic Administration says the ship will help reinforce China’s administration of waters under its sovereignty.
