In Athens, many students are hopeful that a new Guinness World Record for largest origami mosaic has been set. More than 18,000 students spent nine hours creating 52,000 origami paper flowers to make it.

The project brought students from across the capital to create a 512-square-meter owl, the symbol of Athens. According to the Guinness World Records website, the last record in 2013 was a mosaic made in Portugal that measured about 450 square metres.

The most important and tiring process was coordinating 15,000 people to get the 52,000 flowers in place for the mosaic. Over the next few days all documentation related to the record attempt will be sent to Guinness for consideration.
