Williams came into the match as the hot favorite, leading China's number 1, 10-1 in their head to head figures.
But it was Li who started the better. Serena there double faulting to give her opponent a 5-2 lead in the first set. And it looked like a shock result could be on.
Williams though broke back, bringing the score back to 5-4. Li though was still very much in it, with this approach setting up the easy forehand winner.
But she couldn't see that game out, Serena levelling things up at 5-5 as Li hits into the net.
And the American went on to take the first set. Some brutal hitting from the pair on set point. But it's Williams who finds the passing shot. And just look how pumped up she is. The 17-time grand slam winner come back to take the set 7-5.
And she continued that momentum into the second set, winning this point to take a 4-1 lead in the second.
Li trying to hold on in their. But matching Serena from the back of the court is a near impossiible task. And Williams looked unstoppable winning this point with the backhand down the line to race to a 5-1 lead.
And she wrapped up the match in the very next game with the unreturned serve. 7-5, 6-1 the score - and it's a record seventh Miami Masters trophy for Williams making her the fourth woman in the Open era, to win an event at least seven times.
Serena Williams, 2014 WTA Miami Masters Winner, said, "I was really excited. I think it kind of showed. I was a little more excited than I normally am because it was a record breaking win for me. I didn't have an easy tournament at all. I had a really, really tough way, the whole time and so I didn't expect to be holding up that trophy and so when I was at match point I thought 'oh my God, this is so close, I can actually do this."
