In Bolivia, the heart of South America. Its rich culture expresses itself in colourful costumes, dances and stunning carnivals. Among the many indigenous dances is the Morenada dance, inspired from the country.

With a history of more than 2,000 years, carnival in the mining town of Oruro in March has become Bolivia' most celebrated festival.

And one of the highlights is the Morenada dance.

Pablo has been dancing the Morenada for almost 2 decades.

Every weekend from November to March before carnival season, he would travel to Oruro to practice the dance.

It's nearly an ten-hour commute, but Pablo says it's all worth it.

On carnival day, Pablo would rise early.

Because the costume comprises of a lot of pieces, Pablo has to put on part of the costume at home and take the rest with him.

When he arrives at the parade, he would add the rest on.

The Morenada was inspired by the sufferings of African slaves brought to Bolivia to work in the Silver mines of Potosi.

The caricature dance is accompanied by the rattle of Matracas, a kind of ratchet, recalling the rattling of the chains.
