This year's 25th Golden Melody Awards and Global Music Festival has seen two frequent nominees, JJ Lin and Penny Tai finally taking home trophies.

JJ Lin, Penny Tai crowned at Golden Melody Awards

Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin wins the Best Male Singer Award after being nominated 3 times before. He says he was shocked by the announcement.

"At first I thought the emcee was joking - because when I met him before I said to him, no matter what you see on the card, you must read my name out!" said JJ Lin, Best Male Singer Award Winner.

Winner of The Best Female Singer Award, Penny Tai, is also a 4-time nominee. She also sweeps another award - for Best Album Producer.

"I am a little embarrassed, but still it's a huge honor. To be awarded in life is more than enough I think. I'm feeling so great now." said Penny Tai, Best Female Singer Award Winner.

Rocker Chang Chen-yue was a strong candidate against JJ Lin in the male singer category. However, he takes home Best Album Award with "I Am Ayal Komod", an album inspired by his Amis origin.

"So my album this time is quite ethnic and not very mainstream - there are fewer slow-tempo love songs. I thought of music always changing in the past 20 years, and now I feel obliged to stick to my aboriginal roots." said Chang Chen-Yue, Best Album Award Winner.

The Golden Melody Awards were founded in 1990 and are held in May or June every year. It is one of the biggest musical ceremonies in Asia.
