The world's young athletes are gathering in Nanjing for the Second Youth Olympic Games starting this Saturday. China has sent two gymnasts to the games, one male and one female. Our reporter Wu Guoxiu had the chance to meet up with one of them during a practice session in Beijing.

Gearing up for the big event. 16 year old Ma Yue is the only male gymnast representing China at the second Youth Olympics in Nanjing.

This rising star is not burdened by pressure, but that doesn't mean he is not focused on success.

"I will participate in the all-round event, and specific individual events. I hope I can get into finals in the rings, floor exercise, and parallel bars -- those are my best events," Ma said.

For nearly a decade, Ma has been ex-sell-ing in gymnastics, and was selected to the national team in March. Shortly after in April, he clinched a gold medal in the rings at the 13th Junior Asian Gymnastics Championships.

He was encouraged to enter the sport as a youngster, by his family and coach. And after tumbling, twisting and turning for almost ten years, he still remembers his early days of training.

"I liked it when I was a child. I could flip back and forth. I felt it so cool," Ma said.

The daily routine for Ma involves 6 to 7 hours of training. And that is not just limited to time on the mat -- as his phone has become a valuable tool. With this recording he can go over previous routines in an effort to perfect each and every swing and handstand.

He hopes to win a gold at the competition, setting the bar high for himself. But until Sunday's qualifying, everything is still up in mid-air.

"Ma Yue will be competing with 41 other young gymnasts during the Nanjing Youth Olympics. After years of training, countless repetitions, all eyes will be on him when he attends his first Olympics Games in his sports career.
