Friday was VJ Day, a day that marks the surrender of Japan to the allies, and the final end to World War Two. One of the most famous photos of that day was of a sailor kissing a nurse in New York's Times Square.

69 years on from that famous day, a World War Two veteran and his wife re-enacted the famous embrace. Sydnor Thompson and his bride of 67 years, Harriette, reproduced the historic kiss, next to a six-foot tall replica statue of the famous photograph, called "Say Goodbye to War". The hour-long event in Times Square marked the start of a year-long campaign to boost awareness of VJ , leading up to the 70th anniversary next year.
