The Japanese Defense Ministry is set to request a record-high 5.05 trillion yen budget for the 2015 financial year that's according to the country's Kyodo News agency.
If agreed by the cabinet, it would be a 3.5 percent raise on the current year. The ministry is hoping to enhance the capacity of Japan's Self Defense Forces, for the defense of "remote territories".
The budget request will cover creating an amphibious force, including new amphibious assault vessels, and the purchase of six F-35 stealth fighters and 20 P-1 jets.
The budget request will be officially announced on August the 29th. It comes at a time of continued tensions with China, South Korea and Russia over a number of maritime territorial disputes.
