China's Wang Yan was looking to continue her medal haul in the east Chinese city. The 14-year-old gymnast had already captured two medals, and was looking to add a third in Women's Balance Beam. A rising star in the star-ladden Chinese Gymnastics Team, Wang captured the Women's Vault gold and Uneven Bars bronze earlier in the competition.

The youngster maintained her form Sunday and was flawless on the beam. With a pretty good landing, Wang swept to victory on 14.633 points. Flavia Lopes Saraiva of Brazil took the silver medal while Elissa Downie of Great Britain took bronze.

On the men's side, there was further medal success for Britain's Giarnni Regini -Moran.

He took the gold in the Vault - his third gold of the games following his triumphs in both the all-round and the floor events.

The 16-year-old also took bronze medals in the parallel bars and in the horizontal bars.

In track and field, the first event of the evening session was the women's hammer throw.

Alex Hulley had her best shot in the third attempt after chucking it 68.35 meters.

China's Xu Xinying got the exact same result in her fourth attempt.

According to the rules, the gold would be decided by the athletes' second best result. Xu's was better 67.70 meters, against Hulley's 66.81.

As a result, the Chinese added a gold for her country. Zsofia Bacskay of Hungary was third.

In the men's long jump, Russia's Anatoly Ryapolov would set the standard with a leap of 7.54 metres.

That was good enough to beat out Obrien Wasome of Jamaica, who was 10 centimetres behind. China's Zhong Peifeng grabbed the bronze medal.

In the women's 200 metres -- Natalliah Whyte in lane four was in first as the runners hit the corner -- and she would be able to extend her lead over the last 100 metres, as her form does not falter in the wet conditions at the Nanjing Olympic Stadium. The Jamaican would finish in 23.55 seconds to take gold. Dzhois Koba of Ukraine was second, and Brandee Johnson of the USA took the bronze.

The best performance on the traack was set in the men's 1500m -- by Gilbert Kwemoi Soet from Kenya. The middle distance runner claimed gold in style by recording the fastest youth time of the year -- 3 minutes 41.99 seconds before breaking out a unique celebration dance at the finish.

An absolutely thrilling finish to the international mixed relay in cycling -- as a photo finish was needed to decide the winner -- early on the competitors would have to deal with wet conditions.

The international mixed team relay is made up of two men and two women, and the cyclists alternate between a road and a mountain bike route.

Federico Mandelli is setting the pace for Italy during this stage of the off-road trek.

The Czech Republic would make a strong push -- and Roman Lehky overtook Italy's Manuel Todaro as they entered the the third leg on the road

It was neck and neck after that as both teams handed off to their team-mates at the same time for the final lap.

And it was a sprint to the finish -- where Czech rider Nikola Noskava edged out Sofia Beggin in a photo finish. Elation for the Czechs, heartbreak for the Italians.
