James Bond movie "Goldfinger" celebrating its fifty years. Christie's in London is selling off a selection of memorabilia related to the movie in a special online charity auction. |
The auction's main attraction is a one-off replica of James Bond's iconic Aston Martin DB5, first seen being driven by Sean Connery in the movie.
Propshop, which manufactured models of DB5s used for special effect sequences in Skyfall, has created a one-off model with 24-carat gold-plated detailing. It comes complete with radio controlled machine guns, bulletproof shield and revolving number plate.
"This is our very sixties looking remote control unit. It was designed to look like a 1960's prop, because it's 50 years of Goldfinger this year and we very much wanted to keep in keeping with that, aesthetically," model maker Mitch Barnes said.
The model is expected to sell for between 40,000 to 60,000 pounds. But for Bond fans with less deep pockets, there is a range of other items.
"So, to give people other things they can put on, there are five lots in the auction, we have the car, we have the first edition book of Goldfinger, estimate 1,000 to 1,500, we have a British cinema poster which is sold together with an LP which is signed by Dame Shirley Bassey and then we have another unique watch which has been commissioned by Omega," Nicolette Tomkinson of Christie's said.
The lots are on display alongside a real full-size Aston Martin DB5 in London, but the car is part of a private collection and not for sale.
Bidding for the lots will close on September 17, the 50th anniversary of Goldfinger's World Premiere.
