Japan's Hagino wins men's 200m freestyle at Asia Games

One of the most anticipated showdowns of the Incheon Asian Games was the 200-meter freestyle swimming race involving China's Sun Yang and Park Tae-hwan from the host nation.

Japanese swimmer who would touch the wall first, winning in 1 minute 45.23 seconds, and stealing the thunder of his more famous opposition. 

Park was the two-time reigning Asian Games champion and co-silver medalist in the distance at the London Games, with Sun. So it was thought that the duo would dominate the event, but both were upstaged.

Park was quickest over the first 50 meters and was followed closely by Japan's Kosuke Hagino and Sun. But at the 100 meter mark the Chinese swimmer took the lead.

He stayed in front for the next 50 meters. And entering the last portion of the race, Hagino started to make a move.

Each of the trio challenged for the lead over the last 25 meters. But the Japanese swimmer touched the wall first, winning in 1 minute 45.23 seconds, and stealing the thunder of his more famous opposition. Sun was five-one-hundredths of a second behind in second, and Park finished third.

Swimmer establishes new meet record in women's race

In the women's 100m breaststroke, China's Shi Jinglin was looking to repeat as Asian Games champion. And she was able to do so in style, with a time 1 minute 6.67 seconds, setting an Asian Games record in the process. She was 17 hundredths of a second faster than the old record held by Luo Shoujian.

Teammate Bi earns silver medal to give PRC 1-2 sweep

China got another podium finish in the pool as Zhang Yuhan and Bi Yirong finished first and second in the women's 400 meter freestyle. Zhang won the title in 4 minutes 7.67 seconds. Bi won silver in 4:08.23.
