Blue skies return to the Chinese capital

In the Chinese capital, Beijing, blue skies have finally returned after three days of intense smog. However, the National Environmental Monitoring Center has reported that most parts of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region will once again experience a light haze from Wednesday, but air pollutants will drift away early next month as more cold air approaches.

Meanwhile, the vice-president of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences has said China will do its utmost to guarantee good air-quality during the APEC meeting early next month.

The pollutants in Beijing and the neighbouring regions of Tianjin and Hebei are expected to be cut by a third.
