Imagine waking up not knowing where you are, every morning. That's the premise of a new thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth that hit screens in U.S. theatres on Friday. The 47-year-old actress plays a woman whose memory is wiped clean every night, and she begins questioning her husband and others as she tries to unravel what happened to her.

Before I Go To Sleep" is based on the novel of the same name by S.J. Watson. While promoting the new thriller, Kidman reminisces about her own childhood.

"I remember Halloweening when I was about 3, with my parents when we lived in Washington, D.C. And then I remember eating snow when I was about 3 as well -- wanting to taste it and being told I wasn't allowed to but still secretly doing it. Isn't that crazy? And I have a vivid memory of both of those things," Kidman says.

Nicole Kidman has come a long way since first encountering drama in the school nativity play. And she didn't even get the role she wanted.

"I remember being in the nativity play and playing a sheep, and wearing a car seat cover that my mom had transformed into a sheep's costume. Not my finest moment. (Laughs) Yeah but I felt amazing. Although I did want to be Mary in the nativity play or an angel, and I got cast as a sheep. It's the beginning of my whole career," she says.

"Before I go to Sleep" has received mixed reviews since its release in the UK in September. But Nicole Kidman's performance has won recognition from critics applauding it as her best performance in a long time.

The film was also released via Netflix on Friday, so be sure to tune in to the heart-pounding experience.
