Pharrell Williams and Ed Sheeran were the biggest winners of the BBC's debut Music Awards in London on Thursday. A panel of BBC presenters and producers met to determine the best British artist and international artist awards, with viewers and listeners choosing the winning song of the year. But while only a few left with an award, everyone went home happy.

Global sensation Pharrell Williams took home the award for "International Artist of the Year", beating out Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift. His hit song "Happy" was also named "Song of the Year."

British singer Ed Sheeran collected his "British Artist of the Year" trophy from Sir Tom Jones, and the 23-year-old made sure to let everyone know who was responsible for the win.

Sheeran's career skyrocketed in 2014, and soon became one of the biggest music artists in the world. His album "X" was Spotify's most streamed of the year.

He also performed "Sing" before the crowd at Earls Court.

Catfish took home the gong for the "BBC Introducing" category, which is given to the best new artist, along with Bottlemen.

Other highlights of the night include performances by One Direction, Take That, with Paloma Faith and Tom Jones closing the show on with a high note with "God Only Knows."

The show was watched by 4.7 million viewers at its peak and broadcast live across the British broadcaster, where audiences could catch the show online, on radio and TV.
