This is the first time in 11 years that China has reached the tournament's knock-out stage.
Uzbekistan opened the scoring in the first half. But Chinese midfielder Wu Xi leveled the score in the 55th minute when he smashed home a loose ball in the box. Thirteen minutes later, a strike from substitute Sun Ke proved to be the decisive play.

The victory seals China's qualification from Group D. In the quarter-finals, it will face either the host nation Australia or South Korea, who face each other Saturday night in Brisbane to see who takes top spot in Group A.
