Valentino's dreamy Spring-Summer collection
Valentino gave a display that was rich in history, with designs that moved gracefully from dense, geometric Hungarian embroideries, to the bright colors and cosmic dreams of Russian artist Marc Chagall.
But the high point was surely the final flourish of powder-colored gowns with chic embroidered writing.... a splash of couture on a contemporary palette.
The designers' signature Empire lines were still there for all to see.... enhanced by traditional flowing silks and silhouettes of the Renaissance.
Elie Saab brings Beirut spirit to Paris
Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab reached into his past for inspiration..... Writing in the show notes, he said he wanted to pay homage to Beirut's glamorous past.
With the Chaillot Palace just steps away from the Eiffel tower, it was a true midsummer night's dream, decorated to look like an enchanted forest lit by dreamy blue lights.
The 55 pieces in Saab's collection spoke strongly of the glamor and luxury of an age gone by.... with soft fabrics and plunging necklines, and sequinned embroidery everywhere to be seen.
"I am Lebanese. I think I present a very beautiful image of the country. We're in a truly difficult period right now. I wanted to present a collection inspired by my city and my country. It's something that will benefit the image of Beirut," said Elie Saab, Lebanese fashion designer.
Alexandre Vauthier shows star potential
Frenchman Alexandre Vauthier brought some cosmic drama to Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, his first show since being inducted into France's elite hall of Haute Couture.
From the very beginning, the show set the scene, transforming the room into a giant spaceship with plenty of fog, green laser beams and a large black door that opened to blinding spotlights.
Vauthier's Summer 2015 Haute Couture line played with sharp lines and menswear forms, while hinting at the mystique of an alien future.
