Li Na named Laureus exceptional award winner

The annual Laureus World Sports Awards was held in Shanghai, and the world's best athletes have gathered for one of the most prestigious sporting ceremonies.

Among the big winners was two-time Grand Slam tennis champion Li Na, who won the Laureus exceptional award.

A number of other awards were handed out on Wednesday night. Among them was the team of the year award, won by the World Cup-winning German men's soccer team. Meanwhile, Ethiopian runner Genzebe Dibaba, who broke three world records in three different events, won the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award. US skydiver Alan Eustace was voted as the world action sportsperson of the year.

This is the first time China hosts the ceremony, which is broadcast throughout more than 180 countries.
