A grand military parade is to be held in Beijing September 3 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of China's victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Beijing begins odd-even car ban

In preparation for the parade, Beijing started an odd-even car ban Thursday, to help improve air quality. The ban restricts the use of vehicles to alternate days, dependent on whether their license plates end with odd or even numbers. The restriction will last until the end of September 3.

Meanwhile, the Beijing Bus Group has dispatched about 400 extra buses and opened 20 new Bus Rapid Transit lines, to ease the pressure on public transportation.

Beijing authorities have released an open letter to the public calling for their understanding for the inconveniences caused by the traffic restrictions.
