Russian President Vladimir Putin is giving his annual news conference, answering questions raised by domestic and world media. He said the Russian economy has passed the peak of its crisis, with signs of stability already showing in second quarter of this year.

He said the government is prepared for more volatility of oil prices. Regarding Turkey, he reiterated his condemnation of the downing of a Russian fighter jet. He said Ankara is hiding behind NATO, and he sees no prospect of improving relations with the current leadership of Turkey.

On the Ukraine crisis, Putin said Russia is ready to persuade rebels in the east to compromise for a political settlement. He also said he expected trade relations with Kiev to worsen.
