What language are fashion designers speaking these days? Well, if "striped jacquard", "marled yarn", "honky-tonk archetypes", "dolly on Molly", and "mud club" mean anything to you, you'll be ahead of the crowd at New York Fashion Week.

Vera Wang

Vera Wang was going for a long, lithe structure in this collection, while some of her tougher looks drew inspiration from the sport of fencing. And Modigliani's elongated proportions were in evidence in Wang's designs.

Meanwhile, French fashion house Herve Leger strayed from its customary themes. The clothes are made with knitting machines, reflecting the art of the brand.

Embellishments in the line included fringe, chains, lace, silk chiffon, and safety pins.

And at the Jeremy Scott show, it was hard to decide whether to look at the models' clothes or at their extremely interesting feet, clad in high-heeled plastic cowboy boots.
