A new community bookstore that has opened in the capital's Xicheng District. Apart from serving as a library and cultural centre, it's also a great space for kids.

First community bookstore opens in Beijing

This bookstore has sprung up in the footprint of a community library nestled among the residential buildings of Beijing's Xicheng District. Covering 640 square meters, the facility represents a collaboration between government and private investment.

On opening day, authors rubbed shoulders with local community residents, but it was the little ones who were having the most fun.

The bookstore will invite renowned authors and publishing houses to come to the community. There will be more than 40 activities held throughout the year.
