Milan Fashion Week has just concluded with German fashion designer Philipp Plein presenting an action-themed "Superheroine Extravaganza". And Giorgio Armani was big on black velvet.

Milan Fashion Week concludes

Fire-spitting trucks carrying models opened Philipp Plein's show. They unveiled a mainly black collection with dabs of gold and sparkling silver.

The German fashion designer said he took inspiration from his favourite heroes such as "Catwoman" and "The Avengers". That's where the black bodysuits come from, some transparent and cut out at the sides and embellished with sparkles.

Black evening dresses also had revealing slits, while shorter black dresses sported touches of lace.

Outerwear consisted of large bomber jackets, parkas, and furry black or white coats. There were also jacket and shorts combinations. Beanie hats and sports shoes added an athletic touch to the collection.

In show notes, Plein said this collection was for "highly-charged fearless women who brave the world with control, femininity, and bravado".

And at Giorgio Armani's show, velvet was in vogue. The looks literally unfold, with hidden chiffon pleats in the sides of dark velvet trousers.

Among the other hidden delights: Contrasting floral stripes inside trouser legs that match the fabric of the jackets.

When it comes to trouser cut, Armani offers a range of hemlines, from just above booties to tapered at the ankle, some cuffed some not, some gathered like athletic trousers.

Evening looks included a velvet pantsuit with a crisscross top revealing the midriff and shoulders. The look was wrapped in a chiffon cloud.
