Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has arrived in Myanmar at the invitation of his counterpart Aung San Suu Kyi. Wang is the first Chinese foreign minister to visit the Southeast Asian nation after Myanmar elected a new civil government late last year. Wang met with the governing party's leader before the two held a press conference Tuesday afternoon. Wang will also meet with other high-level officials during his two day visit to reiterate China's confidence in growing bilateral ties.

"The two country's economies are highly complementary, so there's a huge potential and space for bilateral trade and cooperation. China can become a reliable and long-term partner to Myanmar, helping it to boost its economy and improve people's livelihoods. We look forward to realizing mutual development and prosperity," Wang said.

"We have discussed economic cooperation and enhanced friendship between our two countries. We believe that friendly cooperation between China and Myanmar will benefit the development of our country," Aung San Suu Kyi said.
