Representatives of different regiments and military departments marched through the square. And around 400,000 people took part in the "Immortal Regiment" march, carrying portraits of their relatives who were killed in the Second World War.
In his speech to the parade, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of defeating the Nazis. He also spoke about the need to fight global terrorism, and cooperate with other nations on that front.
"History teaches us that peace on the planet can't be established by itself, that we have to be cautious, that double standards and short-sighted indulgence to those carrying out new criminal plans are not acceptable," Putin said.
"Today civilization once again faces violence. Terrorism has become a global threat. We must win over this evil and Russia is open for joining efforts with other countries, we're ready to work on a modern no-block system of international security."
