Los Angeles in the 1970s was a "completely compromised paradise", according to Shane Black, director of the new movie, "The Nice Guys". He was in London for the premiere, along with two of its stars, Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.

Gosling plays alcoholic private detective Holland March, while Crowe is straight-talking enforcer Jackson Healy in 1970s LA - a world of violence, parties, and porn.

"It was an era where those characters didn't have to be so good-looking, that were kind of a bit crunched-up and odd. And that's kind of what I was looking for with Jackson, especially combined with Ryan, you know," said actor Russell Crowe.

Director Shane Black highlights the mythical elements of this movie.

"Sometimes, displacing something in time adds to the fairytale quality of it. And oddly, I find this to be sort of a fairytale, including the young maiden and the two sort of tarnished knights who go off to save the maiden and slay a dragon," said Shane Black.

"The Nice Guys" opens in the U.K. on the 3rd of June, 2016.
