The singer, artist and musician, who died in January, was an avid collector and served on the editorial board of Modern Painters magazine. The sale of the collection - which will be preceded by a public exhibition - includes works by British artists Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland and Frank Auerbach, as well as pieces by African and Italian artists.
The top lot is Basquiat's painting "Air Power", valued at between 2.5 million pounds and 3.5 million pounds. The "Bowie/Collector" exhibition is at Sotheby's London showrooms from November 1st to 10th, preceded by smaller preview shows in London, Los Angeles, New York and Hong Kong starting July 20, 2016. The sale will be held Nov. 10-11.
