Soft yet solid strokes of traditional Chinese brushwork depict Hangzhou against an emerald green undertone. The design team also took table settings into account. Appetizers are presented on a plate with a cloche cover inspired by "Three Ponds Mirroring the Moon", an famous attraction on the West Lake. Tea is served in lotus-like ceramic cups and coupled by a bridge-shaped saucer. The soup bowl is inspired by treasure ships on the Maritime Silk Road.

The bowl features a double-layer design for better heat-retention and is also essential to preserving the freshness of the dish. Zhao Chunyang, the head of the design team, said they began working on the tableware in May, 2015.

A total of 16 sets of designs were made. While the design process took the team four months, the production of the final designs took them as long as 10 months to complete.
