Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay state visits to Cambodia and Bangladesh later this week, and will also attend the eighth BRICS Summit in India's state of Goa.
Xi's trip will start in Cambodia, as he is set to arrive on Thursday. The foreign minister's assistant Kong Xuanyou says a series of important agreements will be signed between China and Cambodia during Xi's visit.
Following his visit to Cambodia, President Xi will then travel to Bangladesh and meet with his counterpart and the prime minister.
Kong says President Xi wants to take this opportunity to upgrade China-Bangladesh relations. Xi is also scheduled to meet four other BRICS leaders in India on Saturday.
"The BRICS leaders are expected to issue a declaration after the meeting. They will also have a dialogue with leaders of members of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation," said Li Baodong, deputy Foreign Minister of China.
"As a convention, the five leaders will also meet representatives from the BRICS Business Council. President Xi himself will have bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting."
