US Navy destroyer USS Mahan fired three warning shots at four Iranian fast-attack vessels belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards which were closing in at high speed near the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf on Sunday. Before the warning shots, the Mahan also fired flares and a US Navy helicopter dropped a smoke float.
