A former senior American diplomat has expressed concern that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe may be in overly regular contact with Donald Trump, so much so that it might even put US foreign policy in Northeast Asia in a difficult position. When interviewed by Tian Wei on CGTN's debate show "World Insight with Tian Wei", Joel Rubin, former US deputy assistant secretary of state, said the more-than-frequent interactions between Tokyo and Washington, both when Trump was the president-elect and now the president, might put the US in danger of missing broader issues in the Asia Pacific region. Trump and Abe are due to meet again in the US next week.
