China is ready to work with Japan's new government to push forward bilateral ties, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Tuesday.

"We look forward to promoting exchanges and contacts with Japan's new government to improve mutual trust and upgrade Sino-Japanese relations," Jiang told a regular press conference.

Jiang's comment came one day before Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) leader Yukio Hatoyama would take over the leadership after the DPJ won the Aug. 30 general election, ousting the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

During a meeting with a Japanese business delegation last week in Beijing, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao praised the DPJ's attitude toward its ties with China and said there would be stronger cooperation with Japan's new Cabinet.
