At least nine people were killed and 31 others injured in a car bomb explosion at a busy marketplace in Iraq's western city of Fallujah on Tuesday, an Interior Ministry source said.

A booby-trapped car ripped through an outdoor popular market at sunset in the town of Amriyat al-Fallujah, near Fallujah city, some 50 km west of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The powerful blast destroyed several nearby cars and many stalls selling vegetables and fruits, the source said.

The attack came a day after a suicide car bomb blast killed six mourners and wounded 15 others at a funeral in the city of Hadithain Iraq's once insurgent stronghold of Anbar province, where Fallujah is located.
