Death toll of Indonesia's quake surpasses 800

Indonesia's West Sumatra earthquake death toll rose to 803 by Friday night, the Jakarta Post quoted report from the provincial Natural Disaster Management Board.

The number is expected to rise in the coming days.

The board reported that 359 people and 312 others died in Padang Pariaman regency and Padang City, respectively, two areas worst hit by the 7.6-magnitude quake on Sept. 30.

The board also recorded 891 residents suffering from major injuries and 1,365 from minor wounds.

Some 241 people are still missing and presumed dead.

As many as 133,739 homes were destroyed, 60,831 moderately damaged and 65,492 others suffered minor damages.
