At least five persons were killed and 26 others serious injured in a suicide bomb blast Thursday in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.

According to police, it was a suicide blast in which five persons including one police official were killed.

The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading hospital(LRH) and Combined Military hospital (CMH) for medical treatment, where five of them are in critical condition and the death tolls may rise.

The target of the bomber was not clear because that is one of the busiest areas of Peshawar, capital of the North West Frontier Province.

However Peshawar police officer Liaquat Ali Khan said that the aim of the suicide bombing was the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) building.

NWFP Senior Minister Bashir Bilour visited the blast site and confirmed that it was a suicide attack.

"We will never bow to them and will fight with those militants till we eliminated them completely," he said.

NWFP Governor Awase Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti and Central President of the Awami National Party Asfandyar Wali Khan have loudly condemned the blast and said that there is no religion of extremism because they are targeting innocent people.
