Security forces captured five Taliban insurgents in Wardak province, 40 km west of Afghan capital Kabul, an official said Saturday.
"The troops launched an operation against Taliban hideouts in Chak district late Friday night, detaining five insurgents including a local commander Mullah Musa," spokesman for provincial administration Shahidullah Shahid told Xinhua.
Mullah Musa was involved in conducting a series of subversive activities against government interests in the province, according to Shahid.
Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
The militants have increased their activities in Wardak province over the past couple of years and since then occasionally target government interests particularly security forces there.
