The French embassy in Yemen has resumed operations but is still closed to the public, the Foreign Ministry said in Paris on Tuesday.

"Our ambassador and all other embassy employees are at work. It's the public access that was restrained," the ministry said at a press briefing, adding that the French diplomats would keep in touch with local authorities and closely observe the development of the situation.

The ministry said it reserves the right to take appropriate measures in line with the security situation, and warned French nationals to be vigilant.

"It is not proper to open the embassy to public for the moment," the ministry added.

The French embassy was reportedly shut up on Monday, after the United States and Britain closed their Yemeni missions on Sunday amid threats from an al-Qaeda branch.

At present, the U.S. embassy in Yemen was said to have reopened after local security forces killed two al-Qaeda militants, and the British embassy was also in operation but remained closed to public.
