11 children killed in train-bus collision in Pakistan

As many as 11 children were killed and several others injured on Wednesday as a train collided with a school bus in eastern Pakistan's Punjab province, local TV channels reported.

The school van carrying school children was completely damaged when it was hit by a train coming from western city of Quetta at the Railway Crossing Gate in Mian Channu, a city in Punjab, the private TV Express reported.

Most of the children were seriously injured and the driver died on the spot, police sources said.

There were at least 19 children in the van when the accident happened, police said.The ages of the children were aged between eight and 10 years, the private channel GEO news reported.

The injured have been rushed to nearby hospital. The hospital sources said most of the injured children were in serious condition.

Other reports said severe fog engulfed the scene when the accident occurred. Police officer Mian Farook also attributed the cause of the accident to thick fog at the scene.
