Israeli police broke into the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Sunday, after Palestinian worshippers threw stones at visitors there, local daily Ha'aretz reported.
The Israeli police entered the compound when about 20 Palestinians threw stones at visitors. Then Palestinians quickly taken cover inside a mosque, and the police did not enter, according to Ha'aretz.
Local source told Xinhua that several Palestinians were injured from tear-gas during the clash, and one Israeli soldier was wounded lightly.
The Temple Mount, also known by Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary, is a religious site in the Old City of Jerusalem.
The incident came after continuing protest last week in Hebron over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to include Cave of the Patriarchs and Rachel's Tomb, which are located in the West Bank, to a list of Israeli national heritage.
