An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale shook parts of Greater Los Angeles early Tuesday, but there was no immediate report of damage, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake took place at 4:04 a.m. (1104 GMT) at a depth of 17 km.
The quake's epicenter was 1.6 km east-northeast of Pico Rivera and 18 km east-southeast of downtown Los Angeles, acording to the U.S. GS.
The tremor, which lasted several seconds, was strong enough to awaken residents and send some rushing outdoors.
Some residents reported objects falling to the ground.
But police said they received no report of injuries or damage.
