At least 60 people were killed and more than 40 injured in northwest Pakistan's Khyber tribal agency on Saturday as jet fighters targeted a local Jirga ( assembly), local TV channel reported.

The killed were suspected militants that were active in the area bordering Afghanistan, the private TV GEO News reported.

Military operation has been intensified against militants in Orakzai, Kurram and Khyber tribal agencies as all these agencies are near to each other to allow militants free movement.

Lashkar-e-Islam and Ansar-ul-Islam are the two prominent militants' outfits who are fighting against each other on sectarian lines, and against security forces in the tribal area.

Besides, 10 militants were killed by security forces in South Waziristan tribal area, according to local TV channel.
