A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit eastern New Guinea region in Papua New Guinea at 9:15 a.m. Sunday local time (2315 GMT Saturday), the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter was 18 kilometers from Lae at a depth of 66 kilometers.
No immediate reports of casualties or damage were reported and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii did not issue a tsunami alert.
