Iraq on Tuesday announced the killing of another senior leader of al-Qaida in the country, an official television reported.
"Ahmed al-Obaidi, also known as Abu Suhaib, the military leader of al-Qaida group in the northern provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk and Salahudin was killed," the state-run television of Iraqia said, quoting a security source.
The fresh announcement came a day after Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and the U.S. military announced the killing of two top al-Qaida leaders in a nighttime rocket attack on a safe house near the city of Tikrit, the capital of Salahudin province.
Local analysts believe the latest killing of top al-Qaida leaders can be seen as victories for the country's security forces, who have been blamed for failing to protect civilians against terrorists.
