Firefighters on July 17 battled the first major wildfire of the summer in the suburbs of Athens.
More than 60 firefighters battled the wind-fueled fire with the help of four airplanes and two helicopters.
Local officials said there were no casualties but a nearby holiday camp was evacuated and area residents expressed concern for possible damage to their houses.
"The evacuations are a preventative measure. No homes or lives are in danger yet," said a fire brigae spokesman.
The fire outside the town of Lavrio, about 30 km southwest of Athens, occurred during a heat wave that has pushed the temperature into the upper 30s in much of Greece.
