Floods, heavy rains kill 32 in western Sudan

A total of 32 people in western Sudan's North Kordofan State were killed and 18 others injured in the floods and heavy rains, the official SUNA news agency said.
The agency quoted a report by Sudan's operations room of rainy season as saying that the casualties were caused by "drowning, thunderbolts and collapse of houses."
The report said 886 houses completely collapsed, while around 11,000 houses partially collapsed. About 159 government utilities have been affected by the heavy rains and some 4,950 head of cattle died.
Meanwhile, Khartoum State Governor Abdel-Rahman el-Khader warned of the high level floods of the Nile Valley and urged the state's emergency operations office to work around the clock and send necessary tools to enhance the sites that are affected by the rising water levels of the Nile.
The Sudanese Supreme Council of Civil Defense on Monday warned that due to the continuing rains on the Ethiopian plateau, the Nile water could rise to a critical level of 17 meters near Khartoum.
