An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale struck New Zealand's lower North Island on Wednesday morning and there were no immediate reports of any damage or injuries.
The quake struck 20 km west of Wanganui just before 10:20 a.m. local time (2220 GMT Tuesday), said New Zealand Institute of Geological and Nuclear Science.
The quake was felt strongly in Wanganui.
