Poland will hold local elections on November 21 and runoffs for December 5, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Wednesday.

Poles will chose governors for the country's 16 provinces, city mayors and commune heads and councilors.

Tusk addressing a briefing said the date seems optimal. He assessed that everyone expected that the elections would be held on this date.

"I wish voters apt decisions and high turnout," Tusk was quoted as saying. He expressed hope that the turnover will not be lower than during the recent presidential elections when it reached just over 55 percent.

The election campaign will start with the moment of publication of the election date in the Journal of Law.

Poland will hold parliamentary elections in the fall of 2011 and the outcome of the local elections could indicate which parties Poles favor.
