At least three people were killed and another 22 injured on Friday when a roadside explosion went off outside a mosque in Peshawar, a city in northwest Pakistan, police said.

As a latest terrorist attack in the worst-hit city, the blast targeted the worshippers offering Friday prayers and coming out of the mosque at the Pistakhara area of Peshawar.

Police said the bomb containing 1.5 kg of explosives placed was planted in the veranda of the mosque and detonated by remote control. If the explosion had taken place inside the mosque, it would have caused more casualties, police said.

The mosque was partially damaged and the windowpanes of nearby buildings were also shattered in the loud blowup, witnesses said.

Rescue team rushed to the site and shifted the injured to nearby hospital.

Following the blast, the police cordoned off the blast site and started search operation.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani condemned the Friday attack and ordered a quick probe.
