China supports the Middle East peace process and all efforts to help promote a political solution to the Palestine issue, a foreign ministry spokesman said Tuesday.

"We hope the related parties can demonstrate their sincerity to respond to global concern, and create necessary and favorable conditions to continuously promote the Middle East peace process," Hong Lei said at a regular press conference.

Hong made the remark when asked to comment on a recent announcement by Iraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he was ready to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Netanyahu said Sunday he wanted to discuss with Abbas all the core issues including setting the final borders between Israel and Palestine to reach a peace deal.
