The head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Edmond Mulet, said Tuesday that the outcomes of Haiti's presidential election could be announced on Feb. 2.
Haiti held presidential and legislative elections on Nov. 28, 2010. With the international community questioning irregularities in the process, the Haitian authorities decided to recount the votes.
According to news reaching here from Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital, Mulet met with members of Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
There is a "project of calendar" made by the CEP for the second leg of the elections, Mulet said. Once the outcomes are announced, this calendar will be published "in coming days," he added.
The second leg, which was scheduled for Jan. 16, was suspended because of the recount.
